I backpack a lot. After a recent trip where I ran out of water and the only source I could find looked a bit dodgy, I decided to ditch my standard filter and go purifier. First time out last weekend on the same mountains I'd previously had issues with water quality, the difference was obvious. The water from the wayfarer actually tastes better for a start. The dodgy water source was drinkable and I can honestly say no bad stomachs at all. I wouldn't have trusted my previous filter here and in fact went without previously. It's the way forward from here on for me.
Been through 2 in 2 years.
Helpful hints
1. Never pressurize too much as this will just pop off and be unfixable
2. The plastic insert will break off as soon as you touch it
3. Try not to ever touch this once you fix it
4. If it does break you can still use the jerrycan in an emergency by inserting a pen in to the hole and opening the tap using as a handle
We have limited space in the campervan and I wasn't sure about the quality of the drinking water on some sites after reading reviews, so the cube gives us peace of mind. Easy to use, easy to setup, pure drinking water.
This is a great piece of kit for those who like to be prepared. For hikers or those wild camping this is something that should be kept in your backpack when out and about in case of emergencies. If, for whatever reason, you need to drink water that you have found in nature rather than carried with you, from a stream or pond for example, you need something like this. The filter removes viruses, bacteria, parasites, chemicals, microplastics and heavy metals leaving you with safe drinking water. It is really easy to use. Simply fill the bottle from the located water source and then drink as normal through the straw in the cap and the filters inside to the rest
In an emergency this little filter could save your life. Highly recommended for any adventurer. My only criticism is the cost. This is £174.99 (at the time of writing) which seems very expensive. Yes this could save your life however other options are available for a good chunk less in price than this. Due to the lack of value for money I have reduced my rating by one star.
LifeSaver Bottle Portable Water Filter and Purifier:
I've been aware of this product for about 10 years now but it may be much older.
You don't necessarily have to drink straight out of the bottle. You can pour the filtered contents in to something else if you like. Therefore using the 'Lifesaver' as a through-filter.
If you are in a desperate situation or can't get water in to the bottle easily, you can use the sponge at the bottom of the bottle to soak up water and then squeeze the contents in to the bottle. This may not be appealing, but I did say if you are desperate. So for example, if there is a shallow puddle on the side of the road that you can't get the bottle in to and no other water source nearby. You can dip the sponge in to the puddle and then squeeze the contents in to the bottle before following the pressurisation steps.
Because this is made out of plastic, you will have to be careful with it if using it out on the field. The last thing you would want is for it to crack.
I think the long term use-case of this product makes it worth while if you spend a lot of time out doors and are maybe traveling light. You will get a lot of use out of it before you need to buy replacement filters.
A most to have if you love overlanding, camping, out door activities or as simply as road tripping, great products made of Hight quality food grate plastics and the water activated charcoal filter makes the water taste delicious and refreshing
I do recommend this lifesaver Jerry can
Wayfarer is a great addition to my Jerrycan, When I am backpacking, it is light and compact and is easy to use always knowing the water is safe to drink.
This is a great Prepper item to have at my disposal. I've taken it apart to see how it works and I believe the claims are accurate and I am confident it will be effective at making scavenged water safe to drink. In addition to this I think its built to a very good standard ensuring its outdoor and rugged capabilities. The only negative aspect per se its its sheer size and weight.
A great filter rapped for longer storage, guaranteed freshness
A great addition to your hiking, camping, or a bug out bag. Lightweight quick and easy to use filtering water into storage bottles or bladderpacks.
You may find cheaper but do your research for performance. I also have the Lifesaver Cube which is also great.
Unfortunately the tap was faulty on our Cube, however the Lifesaver customer service was excellent and they immediately despatched a replacement.
Happy to recommend this product and the company, hence five stars.
Quickly despatched and excellent product.
This is a very well-engineered filter and purifier bottle. The operation is simple: just unscrew the bottom, fill it with water, screw it back on, and use the inbuilt manual pump. The main filter is supposed to be good for 6000 L and the activated carbon filter for 250 L. A replacement carbon filter is about £8, and the main filter is about £90, so if you are planning long-term use, you will need to factor these costs in. The price at the time of review is £174.99, which is at the higher end but I believe it's resonable given the robust construction and simple design with minimum moving parts to get the job done.
I'm a water filtration geek! Not even embarrassed about it. I've been interested in it since childhood, this interest has been spurred by a love of exotic fish, exotic plants and exotic travel! So when I was offered the opportunity to test this, I was particularly interested.
The notion of a water bottle, capable making any water potable, is like magic. It's easy to filter out the bigger stuff, the particulates, but removing the tiny stuff though, the nematodes, the protozoan cysts, the bacteria, is a lot more challenging. Then there is tinier stuff still, and the various chemicals and heavy metals, that just cannot be filtered out using traditional means.
In my home, I have the luxury of space, and can accommodate various systems. I have a three stage mechanical filter, followed by a reverse osmosis filter, and that is for water that is already safe to drink.. This is for the benefit of my plants though, not me. I just drink the tap stuff!
When travelling, lugging such a filtration system about is not practical. I have examined various options, including the famous "LifeStraw", but I was intrigued by this more elaborate option. Unfortunately, upon receipt I quickly came to the conclusion that this was next to useless for me.
First the positives. This is a seriously well-made product, super tough and durable, very substantial. The filtering mechanism works well, it's very easy to fill, the pumping action feels sturdy and positive. I cannot fault the build quality of this. 6000l is LOADS, this will last one, two, or even a family, a LONG time, like months to years. The filter elements are replaceable, which is great. I see others criticising the price, but in my opinion, those who need such a device will happily pay £174.99, and a LOT more in fact. I have no doubt that this will do as it claims, I understand the technology involved, and I have confidence in this device. I particularly like the fact that it filters a certain amount, then stops. I mean it will physically stop filtering when it is incapable of putting out safe drinking water, the membrane will clog entirely and will not pass any fluid, this offers great peace of mind as you're never left wondering about the efficacy.
Beautifully made, light water purifier for on the go or if you're out for a long run or walk where you cannot carry a lot of water with you to keep you going.
For the average person I'm not sure this is really a value-for-money purchase. Although the purifier does last for 6000l and I doubt anyone would ever get that far there is another added cost of the charcoal carts, which are pricier than most quality water bottles themselves, so again, I'm not sure who this is really aimed at. Maybe those going on an expedition to South America or something. I dunno. Although this is a great bottle, I doubt I will ever be using it to it's full potential. Excellent quality, can't state that enough, but way overpriced in my opinion.
Good enough to get you through any hike with no water reserves.... thats a fact.
Ok you know the drill, you can use this on big lakes, you can use it on streams... even slow moving streams.. you can use it on all those areas you see on the hike/bike but you can not use it on small stagnated pools, canals, etc... even the best filter would not take that on. These water filters are for the water that you would think about drinking in an emergency but would not because the chances are you will get sick, but with this bad boy,,,, you wont, you just wont.
You can drink from those places you are uncertain about and you will be fine, and there will always be those places available so as long as you have this you will be ok.
This is a good one, a really good one. I like it and it has become a permenent part of my hiking go bag. The adventure bag... this is is, the one bit of kit I would NOT wander without.
This 750ml water filtration is the essential item for outdoor pursuits in far off regions where drinkable water is in short supply.
The bottle is made of hard plastic with a removable top to suck the filtered water out.
To filer any water the process is simple enough in that the you unscrew the base and remove the pump and then fill it with the dirty water from a stream/pond or worse.
There is a sponge divider in the base of the pump that can also be used for soaking up water from a puddle should you need to.
Once the dirty water is in the filter you simply release the pump and start pumping which pressures the liquid through the filter removing 99% of all viruses and contaminants from it.
When I tried this on dirty puddle water the water once filtered through was crystal clear. I then tasted the water and it was drinkable although with a more earthy taste to it.
If you need to survive out in the wild this is definitely an essential item if you start to get low on water.
Overall its expensive and replacement filters will also be expensive although will keep going filtering water for some time depending on how often you use it and so I feel the technology put into this item justifies the high price.
I already have a Katadyn water filter which was half the price of this one. Katadyn are one of the more well known and trusted producers of this type of product, and I personally feel reassured that I am using a water filter from one of the top brands.
This LifeSaver bottle is certainly well made and designed giving a good feeling that you have bought a good product.
Very robust but also a wee bit heavy for it's size. Presumably due to the heavy duty filter and quality materials.
Trying it from a fast flowing river and using my Katadyn at the same time, the water from both was totally clear with no floaty bits or sediment. Impressive!
It just needs that 'well known brand = confidence' in a product like this especially at this price.
Still performs well enough though.
I have rated this 5 stars both out of my perception and also out of looking at wider independent reviews.
This is a more expensive item within its market so I would always encourage review of wide ranges of sources to validate many of the claims as they are serious claims. Don't want to need your life saved by something thats not been validated to do what it says it will.
I can't validate those claims myself;, though independent professional reviews do support them
I would have preferred the packaging to be better given the price if you planned to give as a gift it might make you question that.
Its a very sturdy high quality piece of kit though. The size is significantly so do bear that in mind;, however that is what the intent is. Photo next to a 32inch screen to show size comparison.
This is an easy to use, compact water filter. The whole kit comes in a neat, waterproof drawstring storage bag and is smaller than a travel cup. The design is extremely portable. The storage bag includes a smaller, separate side pocket which keeps the clean water hose and the outlet cover (when not in use) separate from the water intake hose. Despite it's compact size, this feels robust and of good quality.
This needs comparatively little setup: add the hoses to the correct outlets on the filter; prime the pump (by pumping through 8 litres of clean tap water before first use) and then you're ready to go.
Since we're not going to be going anywhere for a while, I tested this using pond water - which went from a lovely shade of algae-tinged green to crystal clear. I wasn't afraid to drink it and have shown no ill side effects - so (short of getting a water testing kit to check the output) I'm satisfied that this is working as intended.
