World Water Day 2026

World Water Day 2026

World Water Day 2026

LifeSaver was founded in response to water shortages following natural disasters, and we still provide water solutions to humanitarian efforts across the globe.
Held on 22nd March every year since 1993, World Water Day is a United Nations Observance, designed to highlight public awareness of the 2.1 billion people living without access to safe water. Each year they focus on just one aspect of water poverty.
In 2026, the theme will be Water and Gender.

Where Water Flow, Equality Grows

The global water crisis affects everyone – but not equally. Where people lack safe drinking water and sanitation close to home, inequalities flourish, with women and girls bearing the brunt.

They collect water, they manage water and they care for people made sick by unsafe water. They lose time, health, safety, and opportunities. And too often, the systems that govern water leave women and girls out of decision-making, leadership, funding and representation.

This makes the water crisis a women’s crisis.

Did you know?

  • 1.8 billion people still do not have drinking water on-premises, and in two out of three households, women are primarily responsible for water collection. (WHO/UNICEF, 2023)
  • In 53 countries with available data, women and girls spend 250 million hours per day on water collection – over three times more than men and boys.
    (UN Women/UNDESA, 2024)
  • Globally, unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene are responsible for the deaths of around 1,000 children under five every day.
    (WHO, 2023)

The UN wants to see women getting the time and education opportunities they need to become part of the solution; to help solve the challenges of wide-scale water purification and supply.

How can we help?

LifeSaver will keep working with governments, charities, and aid organisations to help provide emergency relief wherever it’s needed. The Jerrycan and Cube were designed to provide families with safe drinking water for many months, while repairs or improvements are made to disrupted supplies. But we also offer more permanent solutions that can be set up in the heart of a community to provide drinking water for everyone.

The LifeSaver C1 Community Water Purifier can transform up to half a million litres of contaminated water using just one filter. That’s water for 100 people for over four years. Simply connect it to a water source - either a raised rainwater collection tank or a ground source with a manual pump to create pressure - and turn on the tap. We supported Splash Projects with an installation in Zambia recently - read more here.

Instant safe water where it’s needed. No more long walks for women every day to distant sources. Fewer preventable deaths and diseases. And time for them to learn, grow, and become part of a wider solution.

Let’s throw them a lifeline

We have timed the launch of our LifeSaver Lifeline Personal Water Filter with World Water Day 2026 to help raise awareness of the millions who need help.

Many of our customers choose to travel to places where safe drinking water is scarce. They have the luxury of planning to be without access to water, the time to research the best solution to meet their needs, and the funds to invest in that solution  – whether that’s for a long hike in the local countryside or an epic overlanding trip on another continent. It’s easy to forget that, for many of the people they pass on their journey, the daily struggle for fresh water isn't about personal challenge; it's about survival.

To that end, for every 500 Lifelines we sell, we’ll throw a lifeline to a community that needs one – a C1 will be donated to a charity that can ensure it goes where it’s most needed. That will free up the time and energy currently spent on water collection and give everyone – especially women and girls - more choices on how to live their best lives.
